Rumours of newspapers' death are highly exaggerated. For the past decade, people have been predicting the death of newspapers and other printed matter at the hands of the Internet.

The Greater Sudbury Library launched a campaign this past spring in to encourage reading.

The campaign is called a Million Reads. Over the past six months citizens reported information on how many books, magazines, e-mails, audio books and newspapers they read. Organizers expect to meet the one million mark by the end of October.

Reporting shows that newspapers are the most popular item read in Greater Sudbury, and that 5.5 million local newspapers are read at last once by citizens over the course of a six-month period.
