When the going gets tough, the tough get going. The mayor and city councillors need thicker skins.
OK, Eltongate has made them look bad, a little greedy even. But instead of just sucking it up, council has made a tempest out of a teapot.
The mayor apologized and promised to review the situation so that he and councillors wouldn't get first dibs on arena tickets in the future.
It should have ended there. Council should have taken its lumps and lived with them.
Council made its bed, and they should have slept in it. Instead, they caved in to media pressure and look silly.
Councillors put some tickets up for sale on Monday after running a small ad in the daily newspaper last Saturday. I guess they didn't want the majority of citizens to know about it. The city did not bother to notify the other media about the sell-off.
Now we hear the city is hiring a public relations person and consulting lawyers over Eltongate.
Enough already!
Why are they letting the media wag the dog instead of leading the pack?
It is time to get back to business of leading.
