I am a member of the Sudbury group co-hosting the International Festival of Authors' Sudbury visit. I haven't done much work at all. The local legwork has been done by Roger and Chris Nash. We do hope you will take advantage of this wonderful opporunity to meet and to hear a small sample of the big Toronto festival at the Harbourfront. The following is the press release prepared by the Toronto organizers.

The world renowned International Festival of Authors  (IFOA) is expanding it touring programme, IFOA Ontario, to include festival events in Sudbury. IFOA Ontario will also present events in Hamilton, London, Milton, Picton, Port Hope, Owen Sound, and Windsor, in addition to those already occurring in Barrie, Burlington, Midland, Orillia, Parry Sound, and Uxbridge.

Geoffrey Taylor, Director of IFOA, says: “IFOA Ontario is excited to further build upon the relationships it has fostered over the years, as well as develop new partnerships in an additional eight locations throughout the province. This touring programme would not be possible without the numerous Ontario organizations whose mission it is to bring the written word to their communities.”

Don’t miss IFOA Sudbury on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at 7:30 pm at the Alphonse Raymond Auditorium at Laurentian University. Presented in partnership with the City of Greater Sudbury, CBC

Radio, and Northern Life, IFOA Sudbury will feature readings by Charles Foran (Canada), Miguel Syjuco (Canada/Philippines), and Tom McCarthy (UK).

Tickets for IFOA SUDBURY are $10 and can be purchased at Helvi's Flowers on Paris St. or Small Things on Regent St.

About the Authors:

Charles Foran

(Canada) is the author of eight books, including four novels and the essay collection

Join the Revolution, Comrade. He also writes regularly for magazines and newspapers in Canada and

abroad, and is a contributing reviewer for the Globe and Mail. Foran presents Mordecai: The Life, a

biography of one of Canada's most beloved and successful writers, Mordecai Richler.

Miguel Syjuco

(Canada/Philippines) holds an MA from Columbia University and is completing his

PhD with the University of Adelaide, Australia. Born into a political family, Syjuco left the Philippines

to become a writer. He now lives in Montreal. Syjuco’s Man Asian Literary Prize-winning debut novel,

Ilustrado, follows two very different men who are both searching for roots and meaning amidst the

chaotic ambiguity of modern life.

Tom McCarthy

(UK) is known in the art world for the reports, manifestos and media interventions he

has made as general secretary of the International Necronautical Society, a semi-fictitious avant-garde

network. He has written three novels as well as a work of literary criticism. McCarthy reads from his

latest work, C. Taking place during the early years of the twentieth century, C follows a young man

who eventually finds himself in a bizarre scene in an Egyptian catacomb where all of his paths and

relationships converge.

About IFOA:

For 11 days each October, the IFOA presents a wide range of readings, round table discussions, onstage

contemporary literature. Administered by Authors at Harbourfront Centre, this year’s 31st annual IFOA

takes place from October 20 to 30, 2010. IFOA also includes IFOA Ontario, a touring programme that

now stops in 14 locations throughout Ontario, which takes place October 21 to November 5, 2010.
