New signs downtown

Out with the old and in with the new. Visitors and citizens alike will have an easier time finding their way in Greater Sudbury's downtown core thanks to new street name signs. The new signs have a heritage look and are emblazoned with the image of a train and the number 1883, referencing the year Sudbury Junction was founded. Susan Thompson, the managing director of the Downtown Village Development Corporation (DVDC), says the new street signs are a refreshing change in the downtown core versus what was in place before. "It's a definite improvement. These new signs are reflective of our city's heritage and are a large part of the sense of place DVDC and the Downtown Partners are creating in the downtown core." The new street signs are the first of many streetscape improvements people will begin to notice in the downtown core, followed by benches, bike racks and new street lighting, as part of the Downtown Streetscape project - a partnership between Downtown Sudbury, the City of Greater Sudbury, the Greater Sudbury Development Corporation and DVDC.
