The Sudbury Horticultural Society celebrates its 100th anniversary in 20011. SHS will host the Sudbury Gardening Festival at Market Square May 28 and 28. Celebrity gardener Paul Zammit will be the guest speaker at a special event Friday, May 27 at the Howard Johnson Hotel. In June, members will open up their garden gates and invite the public in during the Open Garden Weekend. In July, OHA District 13 and the Sudbury group will host the Ontario Horticultural Association's Convention at the Radisson Hotel.

 

Greater Sudbury Celtic Festival & Highland Games will take place May 21, 22 at Sacre Coeur on Note Dame Ave. There will be two stages with Celtic acts, pipe bands, Scottish heavy games, children's area, clan village, and more. (www.celtnorth.com)

Music

Sudbury Symphony Goes Around the World, April 16 at 8 pm, Glad Tidings Auditorium. An unforgettable journey in just one night. Highlights will include a mesmerizing marimba concerto featuring Ian Gibson. Tickets are $40 with discounts for students and seniors. (705.673.1280)

 Springfest 2011 will feature Sylvia Tyson with Quartette, General Store  Bluegrass, The Canucky Bluegrass Boys and The Laws, Saturday, April 30, 7 pm at Glad Tidings Auditorium. Tickets are $37.50 (reserved seating) and available at the Sudbury Theatre Centre. (705.674.8381)

 

The Northern Ontario Music and Film Awards Conference, April 28 to 30, consists of industry panels, networking and mentorship opportunities, music and film showcases and an awards ceremony. (705.674.9954)

Theatre

Sudbury Theatre Centre will present the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, April 29 to May 15. This is a hilarious tale of overachievers' angst chronicling the experience of six adolescent outsiders vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime.
