Cambrian class goes global

Winter 2010 |

First-year students in Cambrian College's advertising program are travelling across the globe without ever leaving their classroom. Cambrian professor Leander Gillard is leading a series of lessons using Windows Live Meeting for the Wired Communication and Digital Engagement course while attending a conference in the United Kingdom. Windows Live Meeting is an interactive video software application.

These broadcasts mark the first time that students from any Cambrian program have engaged with a professor from an international location.

Students are able to watch Gillard on a projection screen and have the ability to participate in the broadcast and ask questions via microphone. The digital class format reinforces for students the importance of harnessing the power of newtechnologies to create effective communication, advertising, and marketing campaigns – a key concept in this first-year course.

Gillard is a specialist in e-business strategic development, strategic web applications, and mobile application development for businesses and owns
Gillard eBusiness Science in Sudbury.

He will continue to lead his lessons from the UK for the next two weeks. Media are invited to join the following sessions at Cambrian's Barrydowne campus:

• Monday, September 27 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in room 4202.
• Thursday, September 29 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in room 1249.
